Belgium
Reservation made by the Belgian representative at the time of the forty-third meeting of the Ministers'Deputies [CM/Del(56)43 — 3 to 6 December 1956] — Or. Engl./Fr — and withdrawn at the time of deposit of the instrument of ratification, on 5 June 1972
The Belgian representative said that his Government would sign the Convention subject to the provisions of the law of 2 July 1956, prescribing that the equivalence to be granted for periods of study spent abroad should be determined by commissions. It would, nevertheless, recommend these commissions to comply with the terms of the Convention as fully as possible.
Reservation made at the time of deposit of the instrument of ratification, on 5 June 1972 — Or. Fr.
When depositing the instrument of ratification, the Permanent Representative declared on behalf of his Government that these Conventions and this Protocol [Note by the Secretariat: ETS Nos 21, 32 and 49] are ratified subject to the effective application of reciprocity by each of the member States in respect of Belgian diplomas, certificates and periods of study.
Germany
Declaration contained in a letter from the Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany, dated 24 February 1965, registered at the Secretariat General, on 25 February 1965 — Or. Fr.
The European Convention on the Equivalence of Periods of University Study of 15 December 1956 shall also apply to the Land Berlin with effect from 8 December 1964, i.e. the date on which it entered into force for the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Government of the Hellenic Republic declares that the accession of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to the Conventions of the Council of Europe to which the Hellenic Republic is a Contracting Party does not imply the recognition of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia by the Hellenic Republic.
Netherlands

We approve herewith, for the Kingdom in Europe, in respect of all the provisions contained therein, the European Convention on the Equivalence of Periods of University Study of 15 December 1956.
Switzerland
Declaration contained in a letter from the Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, dated 25 April 1991, handed to the Secretary General at the time of signature and of deposit of the instrument of ratification, on 25 April 1991 — Or. Fr.
Although the Convention does not contain a specific provision for denunciation, the Swiss Federal Council considers it may be denounced, by virtue of Article 56 of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties of 23 May 1969.
Declaration contained in a letter from the Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, dated 25 April 1991, handed to the Secretary General at the time of signature and of deposit of the instrument of ratification, on 25 April 1991 — Or. Fr.
The Swiss Federal Council declares that the competence of cantons in the field of education, as established by the Federal Constitution, as well as the autonomy of universities are reserved for the implementation of the Convention.
United Kingdom
Declaration contained in a letter from the Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom, dated 20 December 1995, registered at the Secretariat General on 5 January 1996 — Or. Engl.
In accordance with Article 9, paragraph 5, of the Convention, the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland declares that the Convention shall apply to the Isle of Man.

With reference to the declaration made on behalf of the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the time of the deposit of their instrument of ratification of the European Convention on the Equivalence of Periods of University Study signed at Paris on 15 December 1956, concerning their interpretation of paragraph 5 of Article 9 of the said Convention, I have the honour to inform Your Excellency of the application of the above-mentioned Convention to the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyassaland with effect from this day's date.

Declaration made at the time of deposit of the instrument of ratification, on 18 September 1957 — Or. Engl.
On depositing this day on behalf of the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland the instrument of ratification of the European Convention on the Equivalence of Periods of University Study which was signed at Paris on 15 December 1956, I am directed by Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to inform you that, while the said instrument is in respect of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland only, the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland interpret paragraph 5 of Article 9 as permitting them to extend the application of the said Convention at any time hereafter to any territory for whose international relations they are responsible.
